You have rights!

Every child and young person under the age of 18 has rights, no matter who they are, where they live or what they believe in. These rights are protected by an agreement between almost all of the countries in the world. This agreement is called the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

To find out more visit http://www.tagd.org.uk/BeInformed/Rights.aspx

The Convention says that every child and young person has the same rights:

  • the right to a childhood
  • the right to be educated
  • the right to be healthy
  • the right to be treated fairly
  • the right to be heard
  • The Participation Team at Lincolnshire County Council works to promote your rights. We think there are three really important parts of the UNCRC:

Article 3 says that all organisations concerned about children should work towards what is best for them

Article 12 says that children and young people have the right to say what think should happen when adults are making decisions which affect them, and to have their opinions taken seriously

Article 13 says that children and young peple have the right to find out things and share what they think with others, by talking, drawing, writing or in any other way unless it harms or offends other people.

Why not go to the Vote section and use your right? School Councils are part of you having a right to share what you think. Make sure you know who your school councillors are and how you can share what what you think with them.
